University Chorus

University Chorus is an open, non-auditioned, general chorus that performs a variety of repertoire ranging from early music to newly composed. The choir performs two concerts a semester with otherwise limited commitments, making it suitable for non-music majors or instrumental music majors with busy schedules. During fall semesters, the choir rehearses on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2-3:15pm. During spring semesters, it rehearses on Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:30-3:45pm. University Chorus may be taken for 1 credit (MUS 371) or 0 credit (MUS 071).

Concert Choir

Concert Choir is a select, auditioned choir of 30-40 voices that performs a variety of advanced choral repertoire. The choir performs two large concerts a semester in addition to smaller concerts, festivals, and an annual tour. During fall and spring semesters, the choir rehearses on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-5:15pm. Auditions take place at the beginning of fall semester (for incoming freshmen and transfers) and at the end of each semester (for current students). All students with significant musical background are welcome to audition, regardless of major. Concert Choir may be taken for 1 credit (MUS 372) or 0 credit (MUS 072).

Catamount Singers

Catamount Singers is a select ensemble of 8-12 voices specializing in popular music styles with instrumental accompaniment (Electric Soul). The ensemble meets only in spring semesters. Auditions are in November. Visit www.catamountsingersandelectricsoul.com for more information.

Opera Workshop
Director: Dr. Mary Kay Bauer
MUS 375-73 (1 credit)

Opera Workshop consists of a select cast who produce and perform scenes from operas and operettas. Designed as practical experience for the solo singer, emphasis is on physical movement, ensemble work, character development, and acting in the context of opera.

Western Carolina Community Chorus

A community chorus composed of singers from the westernmost counties in the state. Repertoire includes large classical works with orchestra. No audition is required, but regular attendance at rehearsals is essential. Conductor: Dr. Robert Holquist.
