Western Carolina University is a state university in the UNC school system, located in the western-most region of the state. Here are five reasons students love coming to Western:
- The majestic wonderment of nature. Western is located in one of the most beautiful natural landmarks of the United States – the Great Smoky Mountains. Wake up every morning surrounded by the beauty of nature and enjoy weekend excursions to state parks, national forests, and gorgeous waterfalls.
- A size that’s “just right.” All the resources of a big school with the friendliness of a small school. At Western, you are more than a number. Your professors know you by name. But the school is large enough and diverse enough that no matter your interests – classical, commercial, gospel, a cappella, you’ll find a group for you!
- Entrepreneurial focus. At a lot of music schools, you’ll be trained in classical music, but at Western we go beyond. To prepare musicians of the twenty-first century, we pair traditional classical study with the study of music business, music production, and commercial music performance.
- Affordability. Western has been named one of three UNC schools to receive NC Promise Scholarship funding beginning in the fall of 2018. This means that tuition at Western will be reduced to $500 a semester for in-state undergraduates starting in Fall 2018 – a university education at an unbelievably affordable price.
- Community. At Western, we care about one another and making a difference in the world. Find your purpose, and pursue it here with us!
